God's desire is that His people be a growing people.  The New Testament contains numerous exhortations that call Christ's followers to be ever-growing, spiritually maturing.

As Jesus talks about the Kingdom, he notes that some seeds "do not mature" (Luke 8:14).  The Apostle Paul consistently stresses the value of spiritual growth.  He points out that mature believers "attain the whole nature of the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:13) and that "all of us who are mature" have a different perspective on life (Colossians 4:12).  Addressing the congregation of Hebrews, the writer challenges, "let us go on to maturity" (Hebrews 6:1).  Peter, who knew the highs and lows of a faith journey, pleads, "Like newborn babies, crave spiritual milk so that by it YOU MAY GROW UP in your salvation" (1 Peter 2:2).
