Mission Trip to Mississippi’s Gulf Coast

On a hot, July Saturday evening, 8 people met at Gulfport, MS.  Some arrived via plane, while others traveled to the Gulf Coast in the LTWM van.  They congregated in Mississippi for one purpose-to touch significantly people in churches that are still recovering from the 2006 Hurricane Katrina.  When the final of the 8 departed the Gulfport Airport early Monday morning, August 4, LTWM sensed it had been an instrument that the King used to remind some of His children that they are loved.

Those who made up the MISSION TEAM included:  Heather and Jenny Kibbey; Becky Eichorn; Mandy, Jami and Kendal Litzke; Joel Herr; and Bob Flint.  What they discovered is that opening a can of paint can result in the opening of hearts.  To read about some of the details of what occurred in Gulfport, Pascagoula, and Hattiesburg, read the other articles below.

Significant ministry is ALWAYS A PARTNERSHIP.  To all of you who invested in this mission effort by praying and donating money, the 8 LTWM MISSION TEAM members say THANK YOU!

Our new friends, Pastor Walt and Donna Thompson, saw to it that all 4 days with them were filled with laughter, tears of joy and shared sorrow.  Though the hours together were limited, those times of experiencing Christ’s love quickly melt hearts into one.

For us Northerners, the morning and afternoon work projects were hot and steamy!  The Gulfport Nazarene Church was anticipating the opening of the new facility on August 16-17, so the LTWM team assisted with some of the final details.  Weeding flowerbeds, setting posts for signs, cleaning, and moving furniture can be quite rewarding.

The daytime labors were not limited to facilities.  There was also the investment in people.  Publicity materials about Gulfport Nazarene’s re-opening were distributed in 5 housing developments within 2 miles of the church’s facility.  800-900 homes were offered invitations to make the church their home.

Each evening was a time of re-fueling, physically and spiritually.  ALIVE’s music ministry and Bob’s teaching of the Word pointed us to the reality that God holds all of us in His hands.  Before LTWM parted early Wednesday afternoon, the team and the Thompsons gathered for a time of prayer-precious minutes containing expressions of praise for the Kingdom-building opportunities and asking the Father to use the efforts to accomplish His work His way.

Pascagoula, MS
Pastor Myron Hairston, a one-of-a-kind guy, touched the LTWM team deeply.  Spending two days with him, the 8 of us understood why God had placed this joy-filled servant at this Church of the Nazarene.  The Pascagoula congregation knew from a first-hand experience what wind-driven seawaters can do to property.

The Wednesday evening gathering was filled with the presence of the Spirit.  Worshiping in song and listening to the preached Word led to the people of God reflecting on what He has done, celebrating for who He currently is, and anticipating how He will demonstrate His power in the future.

Thursday had a humbling surprise for the mission team.  Simple, every day responsibilities can be a blessing to some.  In Christ’s Kingdom, painting trim, cleaning, and yard work are much more than “something to do.”  They are an avenue for making an eternal investment.

Hattiesburg, MSltwm_-_mar_-_aug_09_003_2.jpg
Pastor Kermit Hudson and the believers of 1st Church of the Nazarene warmly opened their doors to the LTWM team on Sunday morning.  A full week of work and worship in Mississippi came to a completion as the North and the South gathered in the name of Jesus.

Young and old experienced unity of Spirit as the “new songs”, led by the youth were voiced.  The togetherness of the Cross was demonstrated as the “old hymns” were then lifted in praise.  The testimony of one following the Christ-centered gathering – “we felt such a refreshing Spirit today!”

It’s true- Christ breaks down all barriers that could divide (Ephesians 2:14-16).
North and South – NO!
Young and Old – NO!
Denomination and Independent – NO!
Peace and Joy in Christ - YES!

Mt. Lookout Camp Meeting

The camp meeting event is not new to the people who make up the LTWM team. However, to work together for 8 days at a camp meeting-that was a new experience! Located on a hill near Wapakoneta, OH, Mt. Lookout Camp provides opportunities for boys and girls, men and women to deepen a personal walk with Christ.

Christ’s instructions on evangelism (John 4) and Paul’s insights on freedom in Christ (Galatians 5) were the focus of Bob’s teaching.

ALIVE allowed the Holy Spirit to enable Christ-honoring worship to occur at a camp meeting that’s been touching lives for more than 100 years. This was accomplished through a blended style that enabled all ages to genuinely worship our audience of One.

The teens were challenged through Nick’s morning Bible Study. Mark’s Gospel and the Letter to Philemon can speak to young men and women! Much laughter was heard throughout the campgrounds as Hide-N-Seek was played at midnight. Biblical community was experienced as the Lord’s Supper was shared around the campfire.

The children heard how God’s presence makes it possible for them to overcome anything that may come into their lives. Christ’s love was communicated through Vikki’s tenderness.

Family Renewal Gathering

Williams County, OH - A weekend in September affirmed some principles concerning renewal.

img_3007_1 (2).jpg

  1. Churches can cooperate.  Three local churches (Bryan, Montpelier, and Pioneer, OH Nazarene) came together.  Their joining efforts for 3 days were for the purpose of experiencing the person, understanding the principles, and reflecting on the pattern of Christ.  Seeking Him, there is reviving of the purpose of Christ being fulfilled.
  2. A variety of types of gatherings are necessary.  Different opportunities to hear biblical principles is appealing to 21st century people.  A Praise Gathering, a Breakout Session for women (led by Mandy Litzke) and a Breakout Session for men (led by 4-time NCAA football champion, Nick Cook), teaching for all ages, and Christ-centered worship music provided something for many.  A variety of events that point to the One Lord-an approach for today’s world.
  3. The Holy Spirit moves and lives are changed when people congregate in order to get to know Christ intimately.

Junior Higher Catches What Christlike Vision Really Is

During a recent revival, 14-year old Ashley listened intently as Bob preached from the Sermon on the Mount.

At school the following day this young follower of Jesus penned a writing that connected Christ's words and the world where she lives. What you see is the original work of this young lady.

What Do you Really See?

Don't you ever wonder, what human beings think
For example, a shadow, that cast in front of me
The rain, that glissens, until it shatters, on the ground
A person that smiles until of which they are brought down.

Why hurt, why deceitful, why discouraged, do you see?
For all along the answer lie in front of you and me
People are predjudice, they are mean, but if they new of one thing.

The Bible, a path, and if was followed, would make the world sing.
It hurts me to know that people like me are hurt every day.
If people stopped, didn't judge and listened to what they had to say
What people saw would be different ...
just like having new eyes.
More benevolence, more friends, and best of all, less cries.

What a way to live!
"The Bible a path to be followed"
"Having new eyes...more benevolence, more friends and less cries."

Bob Connects With Former Students
A great delight of the Spring 08 revival schedule had Bob leading a renewal effort at two churches whose pastors are his former students.

bob_pastor_carol_1.jpg Through the Northwest Ohio District Nazarene Ministry Development Center Carol Tumbleson and John Heuring began their pursuit of ordination.  Carol's completion of the course of study was accomplished on that OH district.  John completed his studies on the Maine District.

Carol pastors the Countryside Church of the Nazarene, Willshire, OH.  Prior to that she served as an associate pastor in Payne, Ohio.  Ordained in 2006.  She is investing in Kingdom building at a church very close to where she grew up.  LTWM's weekend at Willshire was a time of encouragement.  The people of the Countryside Church were inspired, but a further highlight for Bob was seeing Pastor Carol fulfill God's calling on her life.  Though her years of preparation included times of opposition and great challenge, her perserverence motivated her peers in the classroom.  The past two years have been filled with change.  Let's agree to pray for Carol as the Holy Spirit reminds us.

Dixfield, ME is where John and Pat call home.  Having been in Maine for four years, John has been pastor at the Dixfield Nazarene Church for two of those years.  John's story is a thrilling one.  Bob's priviledge was to be the instructor for Pastor John's first class in the course of study.  During a meeting prior to that class with Bob, John explained how he was unable to read and write. Heeding Bob's advise to "Never QUIT!" John completed his course work in May 2007.  He was ordained on May 15, 2008.

WAY TO GO JOHN!

A highlight for Bob during the renewal gathering in Dixfield was worshipping our gracious God as
John read the account of Pentecost to his congregation.  It is true-NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE WITH GOD!
John and Pat are a unique couple that God is using in a unique way.  In our hearts let's continue to exhort them to NEVER QUIT advancing the Kingdom.

Tbob_and_the_work_crew_1.jpghe Body of Christ AND the Pastor's Home

The Gavers, Bob and Connie, faithful supporters of LTWM, enabled the week at Lakeville, MA to be a time of ministrythat was a bit out of the norm.   The gatherings of the Body of Christ each evening were electric.  The presence of the Spirit was manifested as numerous people came together to hear what God had to say to His people.  When the open Book intersects with open hearts, the King's reign is realized.

The hours prior to each evening's worship and instruction were spent in cleaning and painting the Lakeville Nazarene parsonage. The Gavers, Pastor Tom and Wendy Heim, their son Derrick, and Bob formed a formidable team!

bob_spraying_1.jpg Power-washing and painting the house, trimming and planting the flowerbeds transformed the property.  A new brightness shines through the Kingdom people in Lakeville and from some of the church's property there.

To Bob and Connie Gaver - THANK YOU!

LTWM's influence takes on a whole new perspective because "whatever you did for the brother, you did for Jesus."
(Matthew 26:40).

Charissa-Flint #4 Graduates from MVNU

clarissa_grad_1.jpgThe entire Flint family now has diplomas from Mount Vernon Nazarene University hanging on their walls.  Charissa received a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education during commencement exercises on May 18, 2008.  Upon accepting her diploma, Charissa was recognized for attaining some special awards.  She graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors and was selected to "WHO'S WHO" and ALPHA CHI HONOR SOCIETY.

At a reception sponsored by the MVNU Education Department on May 6, Charissa was presented with a plaque announcing that the faculty had selected her as "Early Childhood Student Teacher of the Year".  Realizing that it is stretching what Jesus meant when He made the statement, "THE LAST SHALL BE FIRST", the LTWM family is proud that in Charissa's case IT IS TRUE!

CONGRATULATIONS on your achievements!

As you begin the new journey, may the Father's purposes shine brightly as you willingly serve Him.

ALIVE Leads Worship at District NYI Convention

alive_on_stage_2.jpg

Rallying the teens of the Eastern Kentucky District Church of the Nazarene was the assignment of ALIVE on Monday a.m., June 25th.  The teen's love of Christ surfaced as Mandy, Amy and Jordan gently pulled them into a Christ-centered focus.

The leadership of EKY District extended some good, southern hospitality to us.  It was a joy to spend a few hours in Ashland, Kentucky!

M-7 Conference Challenges LTWM Staffers

news_kansas_city_1.jpg Connecting with pastors and lay leaders was one objective in our attending the Nazarene Mission Conference held in Kansas City on February 19-21.  Though this objective was accomplished, the King of the Kingdom had a much greater objective.  The Spirit moved through dynamic music and speakers, and our call as a ministry was reaffirmed.

Through the keynote address of Dr. Reggie McNeal, LTWM staff members began to realize that the FUTURE IS NOW PRESENT.  We must seek to move forward and not go back.  To be a missional ministry there will be shifts in emphasis:

  1. from internal to external - from church-centered to Kingdom-centered focus

  2. from program-driven to people development
As a General Superintendent made comments, the Holy Spirit in a still, small voice overwhelmed us with the fact that the people groups that have been adopted into our families are coming to our towns.  The people that we are to develop are in our homes.  They, when they are released, will then develop the people God brings into their lives.  We must learn to look for God in the world, because that's where He's doing His work.

LTWM joins Marysville, OH believers in "Taking It To The Streets."
news_street_fair_1.jpgHundreds of people flooded the downtown streets of Marysville, Ohio on the final weekend of July.  With so many people coming together, some believers in Christ saw a tremendous opportunity to invite the crowd to CELEBRATE CHRIST.   Under the leadership of various Christian ministries, a downtown parking lot was transformed into an area where the good news of Jesus could be proclaimed.

news_street_fair_2.jpg On Saturday, LTWM set up a booth.  Information about the Lord we seek to serve was shared through conversations with those who passed by. Cd's of Bob's preaching were also given to anyone who expressed an interest.  ALIVE presented a concert of worship late Saturday afternoon.  Mandy, Staci and our 2 summer musicians (Amy & Jordan) did their usual effective job of pointing to the Living Word.  However, they once again took a second seat to the SAFE HARBOR KIDS.  Mandy & Dave's children stole the show and the hearts of those who attended the concert.

news_street_fair_3.jpg On Sunday, over 200 congregated at the same downtown location for a time of worship. Members of ALIVE were a part of the worship team with Mandy providing some key leadership.  A spirit of unity permeated the parking lot as believers from a variety of traditions CELEBRATED CHRIST.  The reality of Christ's presence moved the leadership to begin planning for another ministry event in October.  The unity of celebration will lead to a day of community service held on October 7, 2007.  The theme of the gathering and scattering is "FAITH IN ACTION~Love is a VERB!"  The staff of LTWM will be heavily involved in this effort to make Christ's love real in the town where our offices are located.

Bob Flint Ministers as the Bible Teacher at Sebring Camp Meeting

news_sebring_logo_1.jpg For more than 100 years, Quaker Hill has been the site for the Sebring, Ohio Holiness Camp Meeting.  The 2007 Camp meeting was held July 12-22, and the morning Bible teacher was Bob Flint.

Bob led in a series of studies based on the life of Elijah.  Focusing on 1 Kings 17-19. Those participating in the daily hour of examination of the scriptures considered the theme “The Person of God Stands Alone.”
